The AIWCW QUEENSLAND/NT Branch is very pleased to announce that they have organised three ongoing professional development seminars to be held this year.  The first of these is:

GETTING TO KNOW ME

As practitioners in the community sector, it is essential to possess a thorough knowledge of ourselves – who we are, and why we are who we are – so that our own issues do not get caught up with those of our clients or our colleagues. If this happens we are more likely to be ineffective, perhaps even harmful, rather than helpful.

Understanding ourselves is an important factor in living our lives fully. Recognising and accepting that we are all “works in progress” helps us to convey empathy more effectively and to develop more harmonious personal and professional relationships with others. So come along and engage in the joy of self-discovery by:

  • Considering the difference between self-esteem and self-acceptance;
  • Learning to identify your own taped messages and whether they work for you or against you;
  • Learning to recognise and identify your inner feelings and how they are manifested in different parts of the body for each of us.  And, just as importantly, what to do with your feelings as they arise;
  • Learning to recognise passive, aggressive and passive-aggressive behaviours;
  • Learning how to deal with criticism, whether warranted or unwarranted, more effectively; and
  • Improving your communication, conversational and assertiveness skills.

Dates:       Saturday 24 May – Session 1

                             Saturday 14 June – Session 2

                             Saturday 28 June – Session 3

Please note that there is a 2 week gap between sessions to enable attendees to put into practice what they have learned before progressing to the next stage.  As such, it is not possible to attend only one or two of the sessions.

Registration begins promptly at 9am.

Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
