AIWCW
REQUIREMENTS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICES
TRAINING
PACKAGES (CSTP) –
To be eligible for membership of the
Australian Institute of Welfare & Community Workers (AIWCW), a graduate from a Community Service Training
Package (CSTP) course must have satisfactorily completed:-
(1)
a
diploma course which has been studied over a minimum of four (4) semesters over
two (2) years of full-time study (that is – two periods of at least 10 months
of study in each of two years) or part-time equivalent and which includes;
(2)
the
compulsory units endorsed by the National Training Quality Council (NTQC);
(3)
the
AIWCW endorsed elective units (plus
additional NTQC elective units as required); and
(4)
at
least 400 hours of Field Education (in at least 2 placements) which is
professionally supervised and assessed by the academic institution as part of
the course requirements
Course
Leaders are urged to plan or modify course structure taking AIWCW requirements
into account, and/or make these requirements known to students, so that
Specialisations and Electives are chosen with AIWCW membership eligibility in
mind. In rare cases, a student or campus may have chosen from
the above requirements, but might still be asked to complete additional units
or fieldwork, in order to satisfy the AIWCW Core Competencies.
Applicants
for AIWCW Membership must also provide details of having completed at least 400
hours of supervised field education in at least two separate placements.
For
each placement, they must provide:
(i)
Name
of Agency (ii) Period of Placement – from/to (iii) Number
of days
(iv) Number of hours per day (v) Name
of supervisor/s (vii) Details of duties performed
(vii) Qualifications of supervisor/s
If the Campus (or Registered Training Organisation) at which the Diploma
was obtained has not been granted AIWCW Basic Campus Approval, then further
course details and information may be required of the applicant before full
membership is available. But all CSTP Diploma students are eligible to be AIWCW
Provisional Student Members.
The Elective Units currently endorsed by the AIWCW as being appropriate
for a qualification to meet the requirements for admission to membership of the
AIWCW are tentative and may be varied from time to time. If the number of AIWCW endorsed Elective
Units identified for a particular course is not sufficient for that course,
then the balance of the required Elective Units is to be chosen from those
indicated in the course profile. If a
proposed elective is not on the AIWCW list then the academic institute should
refer the matter to the AIWCW for consideration.
The
Specific CSTP Courses endorsed by the AIWCW as being appropriate for admission
as a member (and eligibility for migration as a Welfare Worker under the
skilled migration scheme), together with the required units are:
